Remembering a WWII Willis Jeep

As time passes and another Memorial Day is here I often think of my Father who proudly served in WWII. His service included fighting what is known as the "Battle of the Bulge". He often spoke about a Willis Jeep he drove in the forest in Ardennes Offensive and about the cold wet winner of 1944.  It is through the endurance and determination to win that these solders were able to win the battle on the European front and once again secure American freedom from foreign aggression. He credited this Jeep with having the ability and strength to provide a means of transportation in all conditions. It went where they drove it.

My memories are of the Army Surplus Jeep he purchased in late 1950's. This jeep had served in the war at an unknown location to us, but we knew from the battle scars on the finders and doors it had been through combat and survived. We drove that Jeep another 15 years before he sold it. It still carried those scars, but was ready to go when we were. I remember it well and in the back of my mind it is still running somewhere today
